Tasting Notes: It might be nothing but a romantic idea but Villa Alessi firmly believes that the vineyards planted in the most scenic locations produce grapes of particularly enticing character. That is why the hill of "Belvedere" with its calcareous and clay soil of ancient formation, appeared to be the ideal site for the aromatic and all-venetian Marzemino. They believe that the grapes in "Belvedere" benefit from the western sun, from the flowers in the valley with their red and violet hues as much as from the cooling green shades of the chestnuts and oaks of the surrounding wood. The vineyard is in fact situated in a densely planted 1,6 hectars opening in the wood. From such a beautiful place one cannot expect but a wine with a friendly, frank and congenial soul. Brilliant ruby red color with purple reflections. Pleasing aroma of fresh cut grass followed by cherries & red currants. Well balanced, full bodied flavors confirm the nose balanced by good tannins and a long finish. Excellent with mushroom dishes, particularly Toretelloni with porcini mushrooms; black truffles and herbs, and penne with mushrooms, sausage and hot peppers. Ca' Lustra/Villa Alessi is a collection of wine-sites: the area is not well known or particularly well described, but it is exactly this lack of fame and riches that has forced the winery to discover and exploit its’ abundance of natural resources. Ca’Lustra believes in working in harmony with the land by letting it dictate the cadence and the means of their work. They are amply repaid by the superb tastes offered by its products where the personality of each site is singularly concentrated. The secret behind the running of the winery lies in the combination of a good knowledge of their land and a respectful, passionate round-the-clock engagement in all the phases of wine-production. They care for 32 hectares of vineyards, in addition to 15 hectares of chestnut wood, olive-trees and grazing land. Franco in the wine cellar, Ivano in the vineyard and Giorgio in the wine shop avail themselves of the dedicated help from several well-motivated hands, all enthusiastically focused on quality and satisfaction. Their work in the Euganean Hills, (which is a "Parco Regionale" i.e. an area protected under the Italian National Trust) is not only a commercial operation in itself, but also a contribution to preserve a unique landscape of hamlets in the middle of the bustling life of southern Veneto.
