Tasting Notes:

Very food-friendly wine. Blackberry and spice bouquet. A chewy red with plum, licorice and chocolate; its minerality and earth add restraint and keep it from being “too much” in the mouth. Extremely satisfying finish. Opulent ruby color. Drinking Yndaris’ Syrah makes it easy to see why this grape is playing such a leading role in Sicilian red wines. A natural with roasted and grilled meats. But how about lentils cooked with plenty of thyme? Yummy. Black beans and rice? Yeah, that too. Wonderful pizza wine and perfect too with chopped fresh broccoli/garlic/onions over pasta. Even works with that old wine nemesis, asparagus. Try it with grilled asparagus, lamb shanks alongside white beans. Tandoori chicken would be amazing. Serve it also with cold meats and cheeses, especially that old wine pal, parmigiano reggiano. Figuratively? Much like that pleasant neighbor with a sense of humor who drops by occasionally and helps you with yard work.

During the time of Julius Caesar, the people of the region of Patti were called “Mamertini the Messinians” or rather “Children of Mars”, the mythical god of war. Their fierce character was similar to one of their ancient wines, a favorite of Julius Caesar. Today, the chant has become sweet, and following the trend, the mark of the wine from this region has become more gentle. The vineyards of Antica Tindari are situated here, between the hills, where the famous Greek theatre of Tyndaris was constructed by Dionysus I, around 396 BC. The winery uses the most advanced viticultural practices with the intention of reintroducing the near extinct indigenous vines of the area, particularly Nocera and Corinto, integrating them with the more classic Sicilian vines, Nero d’Avola and Nerelli, while maintaining a small part of the facility for international varieties.
